Outside
- Clean gutters after the leaves fall
- Drain and store garden hoses
- Shut off and drain outdoor faucets
- Blow out sprinkler lines
- Rake leaves and aerate the lawn
- Store patio furniture and cushions
- Check weatherstripping on doors and windows
- Seal driveway cracks
- Trim branches away from the roof and power lines
Heating
- Schedule a furnace tune-up
- Replace the HVAC filter
- Have the chimney inspected and swept
- Stock firewood (if you use a fireplace)
Inside
- Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Set ceiling fans to clockwise (warming)
- Check emergency supplies for winter storms
Before the first snow
- Tune up the snow blower
- Stock ice melt and a snow shovel
